Electronics & Power Generation

IKV have been supplying special lubricants for electrical contacts for many years with the range covering a multiple operation and environmental factors.

This has given us a high level of expertise in this area in conjunction with the ability to provide solutions adapted to customer requirements.

Benefits of using the correct IKV lubricant are as follows:-

  • Reduction of operating temperatures and temperature variation for both external sources of heat and temperature rises capable of forming electric arcs.
  • Extension of switch life.

  • Prevention of  contamination – of chemical influences such as water, sulphur, nitrogen compounds generating insulating layers.

  • Improvements in signal quality due to an improvement in surface conditions.

  • Smoothing of rough surfaces to improve the contact area thereby preventing arcs and formation of high resistance oxide.

  • Porosity of materials – materials which may be penetrated by water.

  • Reduced pressure – applied to parts with contact & return forces of springs to define the viscosity of the lubricant at operating temperature.

  • Compatibility with all materials including contacts and housing materials – plastics, rubbers & metals.

  • Smoother movement of the switches.

  • Silicone free.

Electronics & Power Generation

IKV have done extensive analysis of the performance of various thickeners in order to determine their ability to conduct and insulate both AC & DC currents.

Our studies have found that an increase of 100
°C can reduce the dielectric constant by 15%.

The thickness of the lubricant film also causes considerable variation in conductivity.

Our work has led us to formulate a range of products which have been designed specifically to lubricate electrical contacts. The range includes products which are compatible with all types of material and also reduce the required force applied to reduce wear.

For manufacturers of electrical equipment this had optimised the operational ability of their equipment, improved user effectiveness, reduced warranty claims and as a result reduced costs.

ZAROX TYN 82 is a non-flammable, white grease, formulated with a specially selected fluorinated oil, combined with a PTFE telomer thickener. This grease provides an extraordinary combination of properties including:
- Outstanding oxidation resistance
- Excellent high & low temperature stability
- Excellent lubrication properties
- Excellent di-electric properties
- Compatibility with metals, plastics and elastomers
- Radiation resistance
- Exceptional chemical inertness & resistance to common solvents

ZAROX TYN 82 is an excellent choice for the lubrication of all bearings, valves, sliding components or ball joints subjected to extreme temperatures or to aggressive atmospheres which would deteriorate conventional lubricants. This grease was designed for the lubrication of components and bearings in high temperature or aggressive chemical environments within the glass, textile, plastic film, paint, chemical, nuclear, electrical and robotic industries.

ZAROX TYN 82 is equally well suited for the lubrication of electrical contacts in medium & high voltage switchgear or as a dielectric agent.

ZAROX KYN142-18 is a special fluorinated coating dispersed in a carrier fluid for ease of application. This high performance coating which is made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and a special blend of perfluoropolyether (PFPE) fluids is non-flammable, translucent white and odourless whilst offering excellent frictional and lubrication properties.

ZAROX KYN142-18 is totally inert both physically and chemically and is totally resistant to all common solvents and water. Once applied the carrier fluid evaporates to leave a coating which is extremely thermally stable and has a very wide operating temperature range.

ZAROX KYN142-18 enables the uniform application of an almost imperceptible but extremely durable thin film which is unaffected by dust and will not run or drip after evaporation of the carrier.

ZAROX KYN142-18 is suitable for the lubrication of all mechanisms subjected to aggressive or corrosive conditions, high or low temperatures.

It is also suitable for the lubrication of all plastic and rubber components due to its universal material compatibility and is ideal as a durable ‘anti-squeak’ coating for Automotive interior trim.

ZAROX KYN142-18 is also ideal for use within the electrical industry where a thin accurate application of a lubricating coating is required, it can be applied to electrical contacts and connectors to enhance their performance. It can be applied easily by spraying, wiping, brushing or dipping of the components.
