Low Temperature Lubricants
Many different factors must be considered when choosing a lubricant for a particular application, amongst these is the minimum, maximum & nominal temperature of the environment in which it is expected to work.
Often lubricants are expected to work continuously at a level too close to their maximum or minimum temperature capabilities. This can lead to inefficient operation, premature wear, component failure and expensive repairs and downtime.
If we consider an oil as a fluid and a grease as an oil or fluid within a thickener (which acts like a sponge) It is easy to understand that the viscosity or ‘thickness’ of the oil at the operating temperature becomes critical to the correct operation of the film of lubricant.
If it is too thin at higher temperatures then it will not provide an adequate lubricating film under load, however if at lower temperatures it becomes too thick or even freezes then it will make it more difficult or impossible to shear the film. In some cases it can seize the component solid.
It is also necessary to consider the other operating parameters of the application when choosing a suitable product. For example the speed, loads, materials employed, sealing system design, moisture, chemicals & other factors are equally important.
IKV Group offer a full range of low temperature lubricants including oils, greases and dry film coatings, specifically developed for applications in cryogenic and extreme low temperature environments
Often the lubricant, whether oil grease or dry film is expected to operate in a wide operating temperature range, including extreme high and low temperatures. In these situations which are often even more demanding of the lubricant, IKV can offer fluorinated (PFPE) oils and greases for operating temperatures from –90 to 300°C.
IKV also offer dry film coatings which will work at much even more extreme temperatures.
Low Temperature Lubricants
IKV Lubricants has been a leader in the field of high performance lubricants for many years & has met the increasing demands for tribological products that meet the requirements of the industries OEM’s.
IKV’s strategy consists of continuous research and on-going development supporting the industries design engineers by offering innovative tribological solutions.
IKV's quick reacting team, along with its capability to develop new products to meet a customer brief or application, make it a leader in its field. These products are available as greases, oils, pastes or dry coatings and are state-of-the-art solutions in the field of lubrication for long life, friction and wear reduction.
To accomplish this IKV uses a wide range of materials suitable for their tribological properties as well as for their compatibility or inertness with other materials. The result is a range of products containing approximately 500 formulations, which are capable of solving most all tribological problems encountered.
IKV realises the products must also meet application requirements and has, therefore, adapted its packaging to meet these requirements. IKV is part of a group, which has been in existence for nearly 100 years, a staff of 250 dedicated employees and a fully equipped in house laboratory with the latest equipment and a large production facility.
Although IKV Group already has a large range of proven products it prides itself on its ability to develop new products to meet the growing demands for excellence in industry.
IKV's quality management system guarantees its customers a perfect match between the properties of the products supplied and specific demands. This system has ISO 9001 vs 2000 accreditation.

Low Temperature Lubricants
IKV-PLEX L-2/S is a grease formulated with a special synthetic base oil having a low dynamic viscosity and excellent stability in the presence of high shear and throughout a wide operating temperature range.
IKV-PLEX L-2/S contains a complete additive package including antioxidising, anti-wear and anti-corrosion additives. It is compatible with all elastomers with the exception of EPDM.
IKV-PLEX L-2/S is especially suitable for the long life lubrication of bearings or journals exposed to low temperatures or very high speeds and where a low torque is required. Applications include electric motors, machine tools, gears and aeronautical bearings and other precision machinery.
Temperature range: -50 to 130°
Our PLEXBAR L2/S is a barium complex, thickened fully synthetic grease designed specifically for high speed needle bearings and spindle bearings where a very high speed factor grease with resistance to cutting fluids and water ingress is required. Speed factor for this grease is Dn 1,000,000.
IKV PLEXBAR L-2/S is a special grease based upon a synthetic oil having a low dynamic viscosity and excellent shear stability. The oil is thickened with a special Barium complex soap to form a soft, beige coloured grease.
IKV-PLEXBAR L-2/S has a wide operating temperature range and has a very good resistance to aqueous solutions. This grease contains antioxidant and anti-wear additives, as well as a special anti-corrosion package.
The special properties of IKV-PLEXBAR L-2/S make it a grease of exceptional performance and durability ideal for the lubrication of very high speed bearings throughout a wide operating temperature range.
Typical applications include; electric motors, machine tools, aeronautical applications, precision bearings. It is particularly recommended where there is a risk of water ingress, cutting fluid contamination or in the presence of condensation.
Temperature range: -40 to 150°C.
